Assuming we’re not ready to ban coal mining all together, is there a better alternative to mountain top removal to acquire these particular reserves of coal?

It doesn’t seem likely that any ‘alternative’ in coal-mining practices is ‘better’. The other option, traditional mining, is still in use but is much more labor intensive, which , or course, costs more money.

Clearly, the best alternative would be to begin harvesting renewable energy instead.
