Ziploc bags are made from plastic as well, and have proven to be just as much as an environmental problem as the standard plastic grocery bags. They are made for one time use, so most people simply dispose of them, and they end up sitting in a land fill for centuries or collecting in the oceans. They do not biodegrade, and only about 1% of all plastic bags (all different types) are actually properly recycled. Ziploc brand is, however, taking a step in the right direction with their Ziploc evolve plastic bags. In comparison to their traditional bags, these are made with 25% less plastic, manufactured with less energy overall, manufactured with about 50% renewable wind energy, and they come in a completely recycled cardboard box.
