Composting with worms is a little different typical composting. I have a large compost pile in my backyard that I turn periodically, as well as a 55 gallon compost tumbler. For worm composting neither of these will work, because the tumbler is too deep and the pile will not keep the worms from getting into the rest of the yard. For worm composting you need more of a lifted box about 12 inches deep with drainage holes. The width and length are up to you it just depends on how much you have to compost. You will need to be able to keep the box dark with a cover and when the compost is complete you will need to separate the worms for later use.
