Yes, weeds are crucial to the survival of many ecosystems. After a fire or other ecological destruction, weeds are often the first plant to return to the area. They grow in patches an help restore many vital nutrients to the soil that other plants like grasses and trees need to survive. Additionally, they grow so fast that they can help keep many invasive species in check by out competing them and isolating them. However, many invasive species are weeds themselves, which can present a particular challenge when trying to control them.
