Many areas of the world have problems with reliable supplies of clean water, but it’s not just a result of using too much. Large-scale efforts to redirect water for irrigation or dams can have negative environmental effects, including loss of water supply to a certain region. Communities in arid parts of the world also have scarce water resources.
The Pacific Institute for Studies in Development, Environment, and Security stated that by the year 2025, as many as one-third of the world’s projected 8.3 billion people will suffer from water shortages.
