Michelin has developed a program called Michelin Environmental Management System (MEMS) to help reduce the environmental impact of their tire production. MEMS has been established at 98% of Michelin facilities over the past 5 years.
Michelin has established an Environmental Footprint (MEF) that they would like to reduce by 30% of 2005 levels by 2030. However, by 2009 there had been no changes and the MEF was at 78.1.
They reduced CO2 emission by 30,000 tons in 2008 and 23,000 tons in 2009 and reduced VOC emissions by 2,000 tons in 2009.
They are implementing renewable energy sources in several plants.
Several plants are reducing their water consumption by increasing the efficiency of their manufacturing equipment.
