Yes.After 4 decades of international overfishing, the Bluefin tuna is now in danger of extinction… especially at current fishing rates. According to the ICCAT, since 1960 the fish has declined a staggering 97%… which is partly the ICCAT’s fault for allowing the overfishing to go on past the maximum sustainability yield.
In the mid-1970s the Bluefin tuna was at this level, and though the ICCAT’s goal is supposedly not to let any fish fall beyond the MSY, they continued to sanction overfishing of this species of fish. Due to their recklessness, along with those who demand the meat of the Bluefish tuna, it is now inching closer and closer to extinction.
