Yes they are protected by the world wildlife Federation. The Vembanad-Kol wetlands are a freshwater wetlands are protected under the 1981 Ramsar Convention. They are on the south west coast of India and are one of the biggest estuaries. They support a huge amount of life and biodiversity.
