Are turtles amphibians?

While turtles can live amphibious lives, they are actually not amphibians.  They are, in fact, reptiles.

No, they are reptiles. Amphibians breathe through their lungs, gills, and skin; lay eggs without shells in moist areas; and generally have smooth, scaleless skin. Reptiles breathe with their lungs only; lay large, shelled eggs on land; and have dry skin covered with scales.
