Are the tribes that live in the Amazon doing anything to destroy it?

Only since the missionaries arrived has anything been done to hurt the amazon. People have been living in the Amazon for at least 11.000 years, maybe much longer. However thier traditional farming methods were not that harmful to the environment, if fact they facilitated diversity in the rainforest. Once the missionaries came, they instilled western models of farming which were not made for the environment these tribes lived in. They were invented for large plains, not dense forest. Clear-cutting happened as a result, making the sustainable living of the tribes obsolete.
