Are trash compactors in sinks bad for the environment?

No, it looks like people tend to think trash compactors do more good than bad for the environment. By compacting trash before disposing of it, more space is conserved which ultimately means less space is taken up when the trash goes to a landfill. Having a trash compactor may also give people a reason to separate their recyclables from non-recyclable trash, though this is a bit more farfetched. Once they are no longer useful, about “85% of trash compactors are recycled for their scrap metal.”
