Are tigers endangered?

Yes! All five subspecies of tigers are on the critically endangered list. There are less than 8000 total wild tigers in the world. In the last 100 years three types of tigers have become extinct, leaving the 5 kinds alive today.

They are very much so.  In fact, only about 3,200 remain in the wild, compared to about 100,000 around the turn of the 20th century.  Illegal poaching of tigers has become a major issue in the recent years, and human civilzation and intrusion has fragmented their population.

In fact the problem is so great that experts believe the tiger may become extinct in 12 years if illegal poaching trends continue.
