First off, the greenest road trip would be traveling by a bus, then train, and finally by air. If you choose to travel by car, make sure your engine is tuned properly (be sure to check the spark plugs, oxygen sensors, air filters, hoses and belts), check your tires- make sure your wheels are aligned and your tires are properly inflated. If you are renting a car, choose one that is fuel-efficient. Make your trip is mapped out-getting lost uses up valuable fuel. Carpool and take as few cars as possible. When you hit the road: follow the speed limit, avoid unnecessary idling, and drive gently by accelerating and decelerating smoothly and slowly.
