There are some mountaineous areas which have notably been affected by climate change. The Rockies are under particular watch as lower-elevation areas have had less snow due warmer winters in recent decades. However, global warming does not necessarily mean consistently warmer temperatures. As the glaciers in the northern hemisphere continue to melt, their icy-cold waters pour into the Atlantic, where weather patterns are regulated by natural ocean currents called gyres. As these colder waters disrupt the typical flow, weather patterns are seeing unexpected change. This could, perhaps, explain why Northern Arizona experienced record-setting snow levels last season.
