The sorts of shrimp that we eat are most heavily concentrated in Mexico, but not in the Mexican gulf per se. Many shrimp farmers get their stock from waters south of the Gulf in Mexico proper. However, about 32 percent of shrimp farmers get their shrimp from the gulf, which is creating somewhat of an economic domino effect throughout the shrimp market.
