Historically, yes, but the gap has been closing for years. In the past, women have been discouraged from pursuing careers in the areas of math and science, but educators and organizations have begun to recognize the potential and contributions of female scientists. Many primary and secondary schools have begun to place more emphasis on math and science to help gear ALL students towards previously male-dominated professional careers in science and medicine, as well as engineering.
