Are there more American Indians than Aborigine people in Australia?

According to Wikipedia, there were 517,000 Aboriginal Australians in 2006, far fewer than the approximately 2.6 million Native Americans registered in the United States, although Aboriginal Australians make up a larger percentage of Australia’s total population. There’s probably a relatively high proportion of Native Americans in Canada, too.
