While it may seem like the Everglades in Florida is the number one spot for alligators, there are actually more in Louisiana. Not a whole lot more, as those two states both account for very large percentages of the alligator population in the United States. Louisiana is home to about two million alligators while Florida has about one and a half million currently. The expansive areas of coastal mashes and lakes are a great natural habitat for the alligator to flourish.
