Historians do not unanimously agree on the origin of Chile’s name. However, most historians agree it either developed from a word or phrased coined by either the Incas or Chile’s first known native tribe, the Mapuches. Either way, the words that the name originated from have nothing to do with what we know as in the modern day as chilis or peppers. Chilean food does use some chili peppers but not any more so than other latin countries.
