Atoms bond to each other in differing ways. This question should actually be under chemistry, as it is not relevant to biology. If 2 of the same atoms bond to each other, the result could be something like a glass of pure water, only H2O molecules in a liquid with like molecules. If an atom bonds with a different type of atom, the result is a molecule. 2 hydrogen atoms bonding with 1 oxygen creates a single molecule of water.
