Mainstream fabric softeners tend to have a lot of toxic chemicals. Check out the both links below for some companies that make green alternatives. Of course, the greenest thing to do is not to use any products you don’t need. If you’re using the fabric softener mainly to reduce static, try simply switching to all-natural clothing like cotton, and sprinkling some water over static-y clothes to neutralize them.
You could also try using dryer sheets instead of liquid softener, I like Meyers. I also heard that seventh generation makes agood softener.
