PVC comes in many different shapes and forms, such as hard pipes and siding for houses, as well as in soft, flexible forms generally used in clothing. Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to recycle and the by-products released by it have been shown to be toxic, causing cancer, birth defects, and reproductive problems. The manufacture of PVC also uses petroleum and, as such, is environmentally unfriendly.
