Are there different types of lava?

Yes, 3 different kinds which are determined by the lava’s silica content (affects how thick and how easily the lava flows.) Basaltic lava has low silica content and flows easily, andesitic lava is in the middle and does not flow very readily, and and rhyolitic lava has the highest silica content and does not flow well at all!

There are many more than three kinds, although the other answer names three of the most common types. There are all grades that are intermediate between those three; there are lavas that are called carbonatites that are essentially molten calcite; there are lavas that are low-quartz but otherwise similar to rhyolitic, and many many more.
