It appears that there is only one species of wild turkey. In fact, the domestic turkey is the only other species of turkey. There are, however, several subspecies of wild turkeys: Eastern wild, Florida or Osceola, Rio Grande, Merriam’s, Gould’s, and South Mexican. These subspecies have different ranges as well as slight differences in coloration.
