Yes, there are contemporary water wars. Because water sources are not spread out and distribute evenly across the earth’s surface, some areas and regions have a very low water supply. Those who do have access and control over water supplies tend to “privitize water distributions or pollute wells and rivers” (http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com). According to Vandana Shiva, “Greed and appropriation of other people’s share of the planet’s precious resources are at the root of conflicts…” (http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com). And world trade organizations don’t necessarily do anything to help make water wars nonexistant.
