Actually bats are killed more often than birds near industrial-sized wind turbines. The turbines cause air pressure to drop suddenly near them, and bats have more fragile lungs than birds, so they have been found dead due to internal hemorrhaging. Only about 50% of the dead bats have actually had physical contact with the wind turbine. Since the bat reproduction cycle is slower than that of birds, it is decimating their population in a more dramatic way. Of the birds killed, a researcher in Texas has found raptors, vultures, and yellow-billed cuckoos killed by wind turbines.
