Are there breeding programs for severely endangered animals like giant pandas?

There are a number of captive breeding programs in place intended to save endangered species from extinction. For example, some of the species that have been saved by captive breeding include Guan rails, black-footed ferrets, and Spix’s macaws. Pandas are currently being bred under the same type of program. The main goals of such programs is to establish populations that are large enough to be stable and genetically healthy.
