The world’s biggest oil rig is actually one that is currently being made by Aker Solutions. It is being built in the Middle East and will be put in the Arctic area. It is specially designed to withstand the harsh climate up North, and it has the capabilities to complete drilling in wells between 100-3000 meters even in that harsh environment.
Not including the one that is currently being built, the largest offshore oil rig in operation is the Hibernia off the coast of Newfoundland. It can hold 1.3 million barrels of oil and weighs 1.2 million tons.
