Although most are found in the Himalayan regions–often used to assist climbers–there are five types of North American species. The black yak, trim yak (black with a white trim), royal yak, golden yak, and whooly yak are all very dependable agricultural animals that require no license that have many purposes.

Yes, there are currently 2,000 yaks in North America but only a little over 1,000 of them are breeding. There are five types of North American yaks: black, trim, royal, golden, and imperial. The animals are native to Tibet but they were introduced to Europe in the mid 1800s as an import. Later on, they were also imported to the United States and Canada.
