There is a newly developed washing machine that only uses one Cup of water! Right now it is only available in the corporate markets, but soon enough there’s bound to be a consumer version of the appliance.
As high efficiency products become more and more popular, both from a financial and environmental standpoint, there is a wider variety of products being produced to meet the demand. There are quite a few different energy- and water-efficient washing machines available on the market. One of the best ways to cull out the right models is to look for ones that have an Energy Star rating, meaning they have been certified by the Environmental Protection Agency and the US Department of Energy as energy efficient products. Among those, you’ll want to look for what will generally be a front-loading machine, a design that uses less water and is gentler on clothing, and one that uses between 18 and 25 gallons of water per load (as compared to the on-average 40 gallons per load used in conventional top-load machines!).
