Sort of – this website provides a listing of abandoned missile bases that people have converted into homes. Built mostly during the Cold War, many of them are quite large and can be bought relatively inexpensively.
There are people building in the desert areas, like New Mexico and Arizona, that are putting parts of their house underground. This keeps the house insulated from the heat of the desert. It also helps the house to blend into the natural landscape more so and look more natural.
There are other houses in the north that have been dug into the ground for one portion. This helps to insulate the home during the cold winters.
