Yes. Europe’s first solar powered train is a two mile tunnel running from Paris to Amsterdam, which was originally built to shelter trains from falling trees now serves a dual purpose and houses 16,000 solar panels and produces the electricty needed to power all trains in Belgium for one day per year.
There were also plans in the US to build a solar powered train in Arizona. The train would traverse between Tucson and Phoenix, 116 miles, in 30 minutes. The 220 mph solar power bullet train is still in development stages and would begin operating in 2018.
