Due to safety issues and standards, new tires must be made from virgin (new) rubber, and can only use recycled or scrap rubber for less than 15% of the the finished tire product. Thus tire retailers do not carry “recycled tires” (although their new ones may be partially composed of recycled material, but not enough to warrant advertising it as such). It is possible to purchase used tires online and at some retails stores, however there has not been extensive safety testing done on these tires and it is likely they are more hazardous than a new tire due to wear and tear. Luckily, old tires can be recycled into many wonderful products such as doormats and sandals etc.
