I found a small independent company that strives to make snowboards with minimal impact on the environment. Venture Snowboards in Silverton, Colorado focuses on improving the quality and perfomance of their boards while minimizing environmental impact. Some of the practices they follow are experimenting with low impact material, having a comprehensive recylcing program, converting their entire operation to wind power, and being a member of 1% for the planet (an association of businesses that pledge one percent of sales to the natural environment).
Arbor Snowboards is another company that strives to make its products as eco-friendly as possible without compromising quality. They use wood(koa, bamboo,…)from eco-friendly/sustainable sources and design them with other organic and eco-friendly materials. They also continuously donate some of their profits to organizations that specifically strive to save and restore the planet. They currently are in the works of becoming a “less-than-zero carbon emitter”.
