“Who Killed the Electric Car” is a 2006 documentary film that explores the “creation, limited commercialization, and subsequent destruction of the battery electric vehicle in the United States, specifically the General Motors EV1 of the 1990s.” The film features interviews with many celebrities and other high-profile figures. The later portion of the film is organized around the following hypothesized culprits in the downfall of the electric car: consumers, batteries, oil companies, car companies, government, California Air Resources Board, and the Hydrogen fuel cell.
“Who Killed the Electric Car?” would have to be the most famous movie related to the development and lifecycle of the electric car. Martin Sheen narrates this Chris Paine documentary.
