Are there any shoe companies that are good for the environment?

There are actually  a lot of options here. Look for shoes that are fairtrade, made with organic hemp, bamboo, or rubber, using recycled metal or plastic, or is specifically listed as undyed or unbleached. Click the link below for a pretty extensive list.

TOMS shoes have taken an interesting approach in the shoe market. For every pair bought in the U.S., they donate a pair to a child in need. The shoes themselves may not be the best for the environment, but they use minimal materials, and by giving shoes to children in need, we are improving our surrounding environment.

The brand Simple makes sustainable shoes made from recycled carpet padding, hemp, recycled car tires, recycled wool, 100% post-consumer recycled paper, certified organic cotton, and eco-certified suede and leather.  They also sell shoes that are biodegradable.  Each shoe sold is rated on a scale of either good, better, or best.  While I am not a huge fan of the women’s shoes, there are some men’s sneakers that are trendy and in style.
