Yes. Two such cases is Garfield Middle School in New Jersey and Lutheran High School Westland in Westland, Michigan. Director of the Sierra Club’s New Jersey Chapter, Jeff Tittel, spoke out against the opening of Garfield Middle School. Obviously, open schools over hazardous sites have caused much debate. Schools are not the only buidlings developed on landfill sites, neighborhoods and parks have also been built.
