“Environmental refugees” – the new refugees will be the result of climate change. Most environmental refugees of natural disasters have no money and no place to go and will migrate toward the cities looking for work. Islands like the Maldives know what they are facing. In 2009 it was stated, “In November, the newly elected president of the Maldives announced his country would begin to set aside a portion of its billion-dollar annual tourist revenue to buy a new homeland because rising seas were threatening to turn the 300,000 islanders into environmental refugees.”
