Most Somali clans have a taboo against eating fish. Fish is also taboo in many other farming and herding cultures in East Africa. However, these taboos are cultural rather than religious. Some tribes in the American Southwest, such as the Apache, Navajo, and Zuni, traditionally do not eat fish.
Hindus do not eat fish (or meat, shellfish, eggs, or fowl), because they consider it a violation of their principle of love and respect for all living animals.
Many Jains do not eat fish because they believe in absolute nonharming.
