Yes. Hawaii is the most well-known U.S. state with rainforests, but tropical rainforests also occur in the U.S. commonwealth of Puerto Rico (most notably El Yunque National Forest). And a less well-known type of rainforest, the temperate rainforest, is found along the northern Pacific Coast of the United States. Temperate rainforests are much younger than their tropical relatives. Most temperate rainforests are less than 10,000 years old, compared to the tropical rainforests’ millions of years. The soil in temperate forests are full of much more nutrients than that of the tropics.
