There is software by Microsoft called EcoDrive that monitors your driving behavior (acceleration rate, breaking pressure, etc.) until you remove a USB flash drive from the dashboard and plug it in to your home computer. The program then analyzes your behavior in the car and makes recommendations to reduce emissions. Pretty cool. I imagine we’ll be seeing more of this in the near future.
The auto insurance company Progressive offers a device that records your driving habits. If you know your insurance company knows how fast you’re driving you will be less likely speed, and therefore use less fuel. Other companies probably do the same.
