Are there any programs like the Spring Creek Project in places other than Oregon, and have these programs increased access to environmental thought for the non-scientific layperson?

Interesting question. There are a variety of writing and creative residencies with an environmental or ecological focus (see a few examples below). These programs certainly benefit the individuals involved, however the degree to which the products increase access to non-scientific environmental thought depends on how much the artist or the residency program choose to share the products with a wider audience. But something can never be shared before it is created, so these residencies certainly support an important step in the process.
