The company Green Ink and Toner makes eco-friendly printer cartridges (although not printers).
The Barefoot press also supplies eco-friendly printing with soy inks on recycled paper.
Since there are eco-friendly inks and most printers themselves don’t come with ink, it doesn’t really matter if there are printers that come with eco friendly ink.
As far as the actual printer is concerned, I think the best thing a consumer can buy, in relation to the environment, is an Energy Star certified ink jet printer. Most printers on the market today are Energy Star qualified. An Energy Star printer combined with the soy/vegetable ink and recycled paper haydenseder mentioned, might be the most environmentally friendly way to print.
If you are looking for a solution to your ink woes that is both environmentally friendly and cost-effective, you may want to try re-injecting your own ink cartridges. So, the thing to do would be to look for a printer that has easily accessable cartridges. You might want to get a printer that has its color ink in three separate cartridges instead of one combo cartridge so you don’t end up putting the wrong dye in the wrong compartment. Some cartridges may be easier to refill than others, so choose your printer model wisely!
