Many states have been getting more and more fed up with wild pigs/boars roaming around. There has been funding issued for the wild pig control projects. These pigs are often referred to as feral pigs.
Most of these projects are being set up by the Nannup Feral Pig Action Group. These pigs are a problem because they are not native to the land and are destroyed natural habitats. The feral pigs eat vegetation and small animals, threatening several species such as crayfish. “They also introduce and spread diseases such as dieback, water borne diseases and pathogens.”
In the past case of feral pigs of California’s Santa Cruz Islands, a New Zealand based hunting organization was hired to shoot the pigs to prevent extinction of sensitive native species.
