Despite 24 hour sun from late March to late September, the North Pole never reaches above freezing. Located in the middle of the Artic Ocean, the ice reflects away most of the sunlight.
Antarctica never gets above freezing due to its position on the earth. Another place that has below freezing temperatures for nearly the whole year is Siberia. Siberia has record lows of -96 degrees below zero. Some places in Northern Alaska experience some fiercely freezing temperatures but will eventually warm back up to slightly above 0.
