There is a type of geothermal power which can be used in oceans. It is called Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion or OTEC. OTEC uses the difference between cooler deep waters and warmer shallow waters to power a heat engine which in turn makes electric energy. OTEC has great potential in shallow waters, it can create 10 to 100 times more power than energy gained by harnessing ocean waves.
