It is extremely rare for Antofagasta, an area in Northern Chile, to receive rainfall. It is said they don’t even receive rain yearly. Antofagasta is located where the Atacama desert meets the Pacific and is the largest city of the Norte Grande region. Once a booming mining town, Antofagasta is a beach destination.
It seldom if ever rains in much of Antarctica, at least during the current climate. It does snow, of course, although many parts of Antarctica are deserts because the total precipitation is very low (but not as low as the Atacama desert, at least not generally).
