Are there any organizations that monitor animal abuse on farms?

I know that the non-profit organization, PETA (People for the ethical treatment of animals), investigates animal abuse on farms. They have even made petitions against the USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture) for animal cruelty, as well as investigating other companies and stating allegations against farms for abuse of animals.

There are lots of local grassroots movements providing sanctuaries and shelters for rescued farm animals (check out to see if there’s one in your area), but the largest national group specializing in farm animal rescue, rehabilitation, and abuse prevention is definitely the HFA, or Human Farming Association, which lists among their many accomplishments the largest ever boycott of the US veal industry (still ongoing!).
