There are all kinds of organizations bent on stopping desertification all over the world, from the Desertification Branch of the United Nations Environment Programme, to the governments of countries suffering from it (such as Algeria), to numerous NGOs. What is needed most is visibility, empowerment of the people whose land is being turned into desert around them, and funding. Conservation of water resources, using mycorrhizal fungi to help plants get a foothold in the soil, and encouraging farmers to engage in sustainable farming practices are three of the most popular ideas, but all require a lot of time and effort to correctly implement.
Numerous organizations try to stop desertification. Some of them are the United Nations Environment Programme, The Great Green Club, The Environmental Club, and a host of others. The Gren Answers also does this.
