Are there any nuclear power plants that are too old and need to be shut down in the United States?

There are concerns that a few nuclear power plants may be too old. There are 104 power plants in the US with half over 30 years old and most of the rest over 20. Most of the power plants have applied for 20 year extensions on their  40 year operation licenses, of which 62 have been granted. In particular 23 power plants are under scrutiny, the General Electric Mark 1, the same design as those failing after the Japanese tsunami and earthquake.
